Siam Niramit Show in Bangkok

Siam Niramit is a large and modern entertaining show in Bangkok which is performed by more than 100 stage performers who make about 500 different costume changes during the show. The show takes place on the stage of the theatre with a capacity of 2,000 seats.

The name of Siam Niramit comes from the word “Siam”, which is literally the name of Thai Kingdom since Ayutthaya Period, and Thai word “Niramit”, meaning “created by magic”. The show presents Thai history, Thai culture, traditions, lifestyle and beliefs of Siamese people as well as numerous Thai festivals.

The Siam Niramit Theater is located on Thiam Ruam Mit Road close to Thailand Cultural Centre and can be conveniently accessed by MRT (Metro). As the timing of the trip to the show normally falls with rush hour in Bangkok, taking MRT can be the fastest way to reach Siam Niramit. That’s why we opted for using public transportation instead of taking taxi. As there was a free shuttle van already waiting for us by the MRT station, the trip to the show venue just couldn’t be smoother.

When you book your Siam Niramit Show ticket, you get a booking confirmation to your email. Showing the confirmation email on the phone at ticket counters of the venue was enough for us to get our Siam Niramit Show tickets and Food coupon. Everything was as easy as it sounds!

The experience at Siam Niramit consists of 3 parts:

  • Dinning (optional)
  • Pre-Show Entertainment
  • The Main Show

Dinning

Siam Niramit buffet dinner is served at Sawasdee Restaurant. The dining area here is large and very clean. The restaurant is divided into several sectors that make managing the crowd much easier.

We were led to our designated table, which was separated from other tables. The service was great as the staff is always there to help. Everything seems to be really well organized for such a large crowd.

The meal was nice but nothing spectacular. The selection of foods at Siam Niramit consists mostly of Thai Food, Indian food and Western food. They are catering for vegetarians as well. Thai Food dishes seem to be adjusted to foreign taste as you won’t find anything really spicy here.

For a dessert you can choose from a small selection of Thai desserts, ice-cream and fruits such as watermelon and papaya. When it comes to drinks, only water, coffee and tea are complimentary. Various juices, shakes and soft drinks, as well as alcohol drinks (Chang beer only) can be bought for a reasonable price.

Not all the dishes were given a try as during our dinner the dancers and drummers paraded into the restaurant to inform everyone that the outdoor entertainment was about to begin and we hurried out willing not to miss it.

Pre-Show Entertainment

Siam Niramit pre-show entertainment is taking place in the courtyard of the theatre. The highlights of these pre-show activities are Thai Village and Thai folk dance performance. Taking part in these activities is a good way for immersing yourself in Thai culture and history. The venue of pre-show entertainment is also the only opportunity to take nice pictures here as no cameras are allowed into the main theatre.

The re-creations of Thai Village are very interesting. We wished we headed there earlier to have more time to enjoy our time wandering around this historical village.

You can walk around and explore the life of people in 4 different regions of Thailand – Central, Northern, Northeast and Southern.

Throughout the village not only you will learn about each region but also see the traditional way of life and activities such as rice pounding, Thai food cooking, silk making, batik painting and dressing up in Thai costume.

There is an outdoor traditional dance performance taking place in the front courtyard at 7.00 pm. Just join people sitting on the ground and watch the show, which is a nice close-up and good experience.

If meeting an elephant is on your to do list of Thailand trip, you can make it here too as you can feed them for 30 baht or even ride them. However, riding an elephant is never recommended as it’s just a torturing of these wonderful animals!

The main show of Siam Niramit comprises of three parts lasting over 80 minutes with non-stop performances.

The first part is a “Journey Into History” which brings you back in time and presents you the history and culture of each Thailand region. Lanna Kingdom of Northern Thailand, sea traders of Southern Thailand, influenced by Khmers Northeast Thailand (Isan) and riverside life of Central Thailand creatively present the cultural diversity that can be found in Thailand.

The second part is a “Journey Beyond Imagination” presenting the belief of Thai people. You are taken to 3 worlds – the Hell, Mystic Forest and Heaven. It depends on your karma, if you will end up at the hell or heaven. And the hell doesn’t look like Pattaya at all (even someone said that), so be good!

The last part “Journey Through Joyous Festivals” demonstrates the celebration of various Thai festivals such as Songkran and Loy Krathong. If you will be lucky, you might even be invited to join the celebration!

The stage and costumes are definitely well prepared. The whole show and entertainment was spectacular and kept our eyes on the stage during all the show. The special effects are also amazing - angels floating in the Paradise, the elephants on stage along with goats, an artificial rain falling down and the boats floating on an on-stage lake.

The narrative is in Thai and English. At the introduction to the new scene, a large screen with subtitles in multiple languages (English, Russian, Chinese and few others) is displayed so everyone easily follow along the story line.

What really impressed us were the parts of the show when the performers invited the audience to join in and interact with them. We were lucky to take part in Songkran and Loy Krathong festival celebrations as well!

Concerns

One of the concerns at Siam Niramit is to leave camera at the counter and collect back after the show since cameras are not allowed into the main hall of the show but it is understandable. The process was quick, safe and smooth though. Although we couldn’t record the show at all and it will just stay in our memory, but we can confirm that Siam Niramit Show was well worth seeing.

After the show some of the stage performers wearing different kinds of Thai national costumes wait outside and provide perfect photo opportunities. There’s no charge but donations are appreciated.

The staff and service at Siam Niramit were excellent. From people at shuttle bus service to the staff of the main hall, everyone showed efficiency and professionalism. Most of the staff can speak English quite well making it easy to navigate in the area.

Conclusion

All in all, we had a good time watching Siam Niramit Show.

If you are Thailand first-timer, we would definitely recommend including Siam Niramit Show in your wish-list. Siam Niramit Show is a good summary of your visit to Thailand. You will have a good evening being entertained and amazed by Thai people and Thai culture.

People who are frequent visitors to Thailand should have less expectation as everything in the show might look familiar and the performance might seem not to be of Broadway level.
