RGN shuttle bus service running all the way from Yangon International Airport (RGN) to Yangon Central Railway Station, Sule Square and other locations in Central Yangon was recently opened. Yangon Airport bus is a very convenient and budget friendly option for getting from Yangon Airport to city.
Shuttle Bus Company
Yangon Bus Service (YBS) shuttle bus is run by the company called Omni Focus. New air-conditioned buses of this company serve the route making a journey from Yangon airport to the city really comfortable.
Yangon Airport Shuttle Bus Routes
Currently there are 2 RGN shuttle bus routes connecting Yangon Airport and Yangon Central Railway Station.
Pyay Road Route
The first shuttle bus route (Pyay Road route) connects Yangon Airport and Yangon Central Railway Station via Pyay Road. Important landmarks passed by this route:

If you’re planning to get off the bus before reaching the final bus stop at Yangon Railway Station, ask the driver which route he is taking – Pyay Road or Kabar Aye Pagoda Road. There are also representatives of the company present at the bus stop of the airport so they can help you choose the correct bus if asked for help.
Yangon Airport Bus Fare
Yangon Airport bus fare is 500 MMK (~0.3 USD) per person.
The fare should be paid on board the bus. You need to have an exact fare ready when boarding the bus as you will need to insert money into a metal box which can be found near the driver. No change will be given back so ask for 500 MMK notes when exchanging currency at the airport.
As taxi fare from Yangon Airport to Central Yangon can easily be 8000 MMK and more, taking a shuttle bus is really worth it.
Operating Time
YBS - Airport shuttle bus service is operating 24 hours starting from 25 November 2018.
The frequency of the bus depends on the time of the day and traffic conditions but we didn’t need to wait more than 10 minutes after missing out on the first bus.
Length of Journey
The distance between Yangon Airport and Central Yangon is about 18 km. It took us about 50 minutes on Kabar Aye Pagoda Road route when traveling off peak hours from the airport to the city and about 1 hour 10 minutes on Pyay Road route when traveling back to the airport during rush hour. Traffic conditions in Yangon can be harsh so add at least 1.5 hour extra when traveling to the airport.
Yangon Airport Bus Stops
Yangon Airport shuttle buses park on the street just outside International Departures. Just walk to the left after leaving the airport building and you will notice 2 or 3 buses parked by the road.
RGN shuttle buses also make a stop at domestic terminal which is on the right side when leaving the airport building.
Bus Stops in the City
You can get on Yangon airport bus at any bus stop on one of shuttle bus routes. However, clear signage is lacking as all the signs at the bus stops in Yangon are in Burmese only and even their own Burmese numbering is used for naming the routes.
Waiting at the bus stop nearby one of the landmarks passed by the shuttle bus would be recommended.
