Taking a Bus from Yogyakarta Adisucipto International Airport (JOG) to the City Center

As you might already know, there are few ways of getting to the city center from Yogyakarta Adisucipto International Airport (JOG) in Indonesia. You can travel by taxi, by train or by bus. Taking TransJogja bus is by far the cheapest way to get from the airport to central Yogyakarta offering you the most local feel of traveling.

As using local public transportation is our preferred way of traveling around the cities whenever we have enough time for it, we opted for taking TransJogja bus for getting from Yogyakarta Adisucipto International Airport (JOG) to Jl. Malioboro (Malioboro Street) in central Yogyakarta.

Finding TransJogja Bus Stop at the Airport

TransJogja bus stop is located at the car parking of the airport which can be easily reached from domestic terminal by going through the tunnel.

International Arrivals

If you are arriving to Yogyakarta on an international flight, you will find yourself at Terminal B of Yogyakarta Adisucipto International Airport (JOG).

For taking a bus you will need local currency (Indonesian rupiah – IDR). If you don’t have any, change some money at the money changer found inside Terminal B building, just before the exit. If you’re willing to find TransJogja bus stop, at first you will need to walk to the domestic terminal - Terminal A. When leaving Terminal B building, Terminal A will be on our right side. You can easily reach it by walking on the roofed pavement for just about 200 m or so. There will be signs leading to Terminal A and many locals heading that way, you will have no trouble locating it.

Once you will reach domestic terminal, finding TransJogja bus stop will be easy (read below).

Domestic Arrivals

If you are arriving to Yogyakarta on a domestic flight from another Indonesian city, you will find yourself at Terminal A of Yogyakarta Adisucipto International Airport (JOG). Finding the tunnel leading to TransJogja bus stop from here is easy. You just need to leave through the arrival gate and then to turn left just after the Information center. You will definitely notice yellow signs leading to the shelter of TransJogja, just follow them.

You will reach an escalator going down to the tunnel.

On your way out of the tunnel you will notice another sign leading to the shelter of TransJogja, the bus stop (shelter) will be just nearby.

Bus stops in Yogyakarta are not usual for newbies in Indonesia. Bus stops here are shelters covered from all sides and boarding the bus is possible only through the gates of the shelter.

Single journey by TransJogja bus costs only 3,600 IDR. Tickets are bought at the entrance of the shelter.

Once you buy your ticket, just get inside the shelter, find a place to sit and wait for your bus to arrive.

Indonesian people are friendly, so if you will let them know about your destination, they will do their best to let you know which bus you should take and at what bus stop you need to get out from the bus.

You should take TransJogja bus No. 1A for reaching central Yogyakarta (Malioboro Street) from Yogyakarta Adisucipto International Airport (JOG). Staying in the area around Malioboro Street is definitely recommended for first timers in Yogyakarta.
